USPS Mail Delivery Estimating Tool

How Long Does It Take To Deliver My Mail?

Many times our customers ask us how long it will take for their mail to be delivered. USPS provides a neat little tool just for this purpose.

Using the tool is pretty simple. In the upper left corner select the mail class – First Class or Standard. Select the mail origination from the drop down menu and click “Display Map”.

There is a color coded map of the United States and the estimated time for mail to be delivered. Here is an example of First Class mail originating from Kansas City, MO with the ZIP code beginning 641:

These delivery times are typically best case scenarios – they are to be used for estimates only. It is safe to use this as a general rule of thumb but in no way is it a promise of a delivery time.

USPS | Proposed Delivery Schedule

U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors Statement Regarding Proposed Delivery Schedule

USPSdeliveryRecently the Board of Governors of the United States Postal Service met and discussed a new national delivery schedule for mail and packages. This new schedule would consist of package delivery Monday through Saturday and mail delivery Monday through Friday. The new schedule would take effect in August 2013.

However, Congress included language in the Continuing Resolution passed by Congress included restrictive language that would prohibit implementation of this new delivery schedule.

“Although disappointed with this Congressional action, the Board will follow the law and has directed the Postal Service to delay implementation of its new delivery schedule until legislation is passed that provides the Postal Service with the authority to implement a financially appropriate and responsible delivery schedule. The Board believes that Congress has left it with no choice but to delay this implementation at this time.  The Board also wants to ensure that customers of the Postal Service are not unduly burdened by ongoing uncertainties and are able to adjust their business plans accordingly.”

The Postal Service has been exploring ways to reduce costs and generate new revenue streams to restore long-term financial stability. The Postal Service states that changing the delivery schedule will allow them to meet significant cost saving goals.

“The Board continues to support the Postal Service’s five-year business plan and the legislative goals identified in that plan which will return the Postal Service to financial solvency.”
